Graphic Chemical: - Whiting
- Calcium Carbonate
- Chalk
- Whiting is mixed with water to degrease copper or zinc Intaglio plates prior to applying etching grounds or powdered rosin for aquatint, this procedure may need to be repeated until all grease content has been removed from the intaglio plate.
- Whiting is used to:
- Polish intaglio plates in preparation for intaglio processes.
- During hand wiping procedures, whiting removes any residual ink from the intaglio plate.
- Mixed with amonia whiting removes tarnish from the intaglio plates.
- Used to stiffen etching inks and increase ink body.
(Calcium Carbonate) Chalk: used to degrease and polish intaglio plates, also used during hand wiping procedures.
